The Tradition of St. Patrick’s Day
The festival is marked with a mix of Irish and Christian traditions. This day is known for parades, corned beef, Irish music and shamrocks. While the day was initially associated with blue, it is now marked with green, which came from shamrocks, which grew during the spring and were considered a sign of rebirth. They were later used as a sign of defiance against the British rule.
Irish music also plays a large part in the festival, as music has always been used to pass religion, history and legends from one generation to another. It is also believed that St. Patrick stood on a hilltop and banished all snakes from Ireland. Today Ireland isn’t exactly known for having any snakes, so either we owe a sincere thank you to St. Patrick, or the snakes in the legend were merely a metaphor that persisted to this day. Of course, it’s impossible to speak about the holiday without mentioning the trickster Leprechauns, figures from Irish folklore that have become synonymous with St. Patrick’s Day over time.
St Patrick’s Day and Gambling
St. Patrick’s Day is fantastic for gamblers and punters around the world, and not just because of the numerous sporting events that happen over the course of the holiday. Many of the top casino operators will run their own promotions and unique bonuses leading up to the holiday, encouraging players to trust the luck of the Irish and try their hand at some extra winnings!
The bonuses change every year in order to reflect each operator’s best, most relevant games. Often they’re related to various slots that are themed around leprechauns and Irish folklore, such as Plan’n’Go’s “Leprechaun Goes Wild” and IGT’s “Rainbow Riches”. These bonuses may take the shape of free spins, or a lottery for all those that placed a bet on the promotional slots on or around St. Patrick’s Day.
Other promotions may include additional bonuses on games such as live blackjack or roulette, as well as lotteries and raffles for rewards such as cars, vacations and trips to Ireland. The extent of the offer depends on the operator, with the ones that are themed around Irish colours and mythology, such as Mr Green and Pots of Luck, usually offering bigger and more widespread promotions than their competitors. We will continue to update this page as soon as we learn of the best 2020 St Patrick’s Day promotions!
